About the Journal

The Gaceta Medica of the Junta de Beneficencia de Guayaquil is the official scientific dissemination organ of the Junta de Beneficencia de Guayaquil. Since its inception in 1893, originally named Gaceta Médica Revista Ecuatoriana de Medicina, Cirugía y Farmacia and edited by what is now the Luis Vernaza Hospital, its purpose has been to foster the promotion and dissemination of research conducted in the areas of Health Sciences. The journal publishes original articles related to work developed in study centers or public and private health institutions. Additionally, the journal promotes publications related to Basic Sciences, aiming to facilitate the transfer and exchange of knowledge and/or experiences among educators, students, health professionals, and the general community. This journal is intended for all health professionals, including physicians in various areas of specialization, nurses, technicians, psychologists, and health science university students.

For this reason, the journal aims to publish multidisciplinary and often interdisciplinary research, always within the field of health sciences. We evaluate submitted manuscripts based on methodological rigor and high ethical standards, regardless of perceived novelty. Likewise, it is open to receiving national and international contributions to consolidate and promote new knowledge through the dissemination and sharing of research in the health field. Some of our thematic areas include: internal medicine and all its specialties, surgery and all its specialties, nutrition, gynecology and obstetrics, pediatrics, psychiatry and mental health, public health, psychology, physical therapy and rehabilitation, patient safety and quality of care, and all fields encompassed within national and international validation and certification systems.
