Abstract

Pleomorphic xanthoastrocytomas (PXAs) are primary tumors of the central nervous system that account for less than 1% of astrocytomas and usually occur in young patients with a favorable prognosis. We present the case of a 10-year-old female patient who was admitted with a clinical picture of 3 weeks of evolution characterized by vomiting, headache and decreased visual acuity, who after imaging and histopathological studies confirmed the diagnosis of grade II pleomorphic xanthoastrocytoma. The objective of this report is to illustrate the management and clinical presentation of a rare tumor, which is also located in an unusual area.
